The Swedish heavy metal band Wolf had the honour of opening up this evening. Although I really don’t have any affection with the genre I was kind of curious about their show, because of Arcane’s positive review for their latest album The Black Flame. As I suspected I really didn’t like it, mostly because of the high vocals and the fact that there are thousands of bands that sound like this (to me). But I must admit that some quality material was played on a reasonably skilled level. But really, this is not something that I enjoy listening to so after a couple of songs I bailed out. Municipal Waste were actually the reason I was here at all, and not even because I own any of their material (because I don’t) but just because I wanted to see David Witte play drums. He used to be in Burnt By The Sun, which I find a killer band and he also performed some amazing work on the Atomsmasher project amongst others, an album I still need to buy. Municipal Waste plays a combination of hardcore and Bay Area thrash metal which ends up sounding like D.R.I. Noisy, nasty, fast and aggressive. Incoherent too. But they sure know how to get an audience excited as hell. From beginning ‘til the end there was constant moshing on the dance floor and many circle pits were executed. The crowd simply loved it. A humorous stage performance added to the bands appearance tonight. It was obvious that they were stoned and drunk as a motherfucker, but they were kind enough to treat a member of the audience to a a beer through what they called ‘the inebriator’. Great show by an impressive band, but surely a style of music you either love or hate. (DemonDust)

 

When The Haunted started their set it became even clearer that a lot of people came just for Municipal Waste; the crowd was of a remarkable smaller size. It wasn’t too long ago that The Haunted played as a support act of Killswitch Engage and only a couple months before that they did a small European headline tour, so that could be a reason for it. Once again they kicked off with ‘The Flood’ followed by ‘99’ and it was obvious that Municipal Waste didn’t exhaust everyone’s need for moshing, though overall the crowd was far less active. The set list had unfortunately only minor changes compared to the previous two shows and there weren’t any real surprises, but I was very relieved that they had the chance to play ‘DOA’ this time! That song alone made this evening worth the travelling for me, but it can’t be denied that Municipal Waste was the actual headliner this night. (Sledgehammer Messiah)
